The Well
2020-2021
A story about how historical events and local narratives shape our perception of the landscape.
This project is about the well on a quiet patch of land that borders my garden in Watergang. Every time I looked out of the kitchen window, I saw this object in the landscape and kept wondering what story it held from the past.
When I began talking to villagers, I discovered a range of stories and speculations. These local narratives, part fact and part rumor, sparked my imagination and set me off on a search for answers. What started as curiosity grew into an obsession. I spent countless hours in archives, tracing documents, maps, and photographs. As I searched for something authentic that had been lost, the final story connects the present with the past. In The Well I combine fact and fiction, comprising my photography and drawings, archival material and research.
